How To Build A Rock Hard Stomach With NO Abdominal Training! April 08, 2008 |
The first thing you'll hear when someone is "helping" you lose weight is "do more abdominal training!" The first thing you'll hear when trying to build rock-solid, strong as an ox abs is "do more abdominal training!" But what if conventional wisdom is wrong? What if it's all just a load of you know what? In my opinion, abdominal training is WAY over hyped. While I agree that sometimes it's necessary - if you do the right exercises (and eat right) you can build stronger and better looking abs than you ever could by doing 1,000 crunches. Let me explain. I'm having a crazy week this week, so last night I had to make it a short and sweet workout. It consisted of the following: I went through this twice as fast as I could, then followed it up with some extra grip work using an Ivanko Gripper, a wrestlers bridge and some handstand pushups. You'll notice that there was NO abdominal training in that routine. And I have to admit, I felt kind of guilty that I didn't work them specifically - but I knew better. When I woke up today however, my abs are as sore as they would have been if I had done different exercises and added abdominal training. You see, when you perform multi-joint movements such as the ones I did (excluding the tricep extensions) - you absolutely kill your entire core. Plus they help burn fat much faster than single joint movements and you won't have to workout nearly as long. Gotta love em! If you don't have them in your exercise regime yet, I suggest adding at least a couple in there. 1 legged squats are especially great for your abs if you want to skip the ab work.
