Are You Wasting Your Time Exercising?
November 03, 2007
I've always wondered why many of the sports coaches around the world are even hired today.

Obviously they don't know a thing about conditioning or they'd be doing what I'm about to say.

One of the most important things with general fitness, losing weight, training for a specific sport, or anything else, is doing specific exercise routines that will move you closer to your goal.

For example when I ran bleachers at my local high school stadium over the summer, most of the time the football team was practicing.

Know what they were doing? - Running laps!

Since when in football do people jog around the field? Have you ever seen it?

I know I haven't.

Instead, those players should have been doing sprints, 400 yard dashes, agility drills, and power exercises for linebackers.

Think about the exercises you're doing now. Are they specific to your goals?

My objective when I work out is to get an all around mix, with an emphasis on anaerobic power instead of aerobic power - since you very rarely will ever need aerobic power in your daily life. Therefore, I do a lot of exercises that work my anaerobic system, and once take a jog once in awhile.

I follow the advice given in Turbulence Training.

I also want to have quicker hands and feet and a more explosive body, so I do things like jumping rope, plyometric exercises, and kick boxing.

Do me a favor and think about this the next time you're working out. Figure out what goals you want, and do the exercises that will get you closer to those goals.

PS - If your goal is to simply lose weight and gain muscle in the shortest amount of time possible, I urge you to take a look at this program. The type of exercise he describes has now been proven to burn fat more than 3x faster than traditional cardio! - Turbulence Training
