Jump Rope Lessons That I've Learned
by K. Swisher
It has been a long time since I jumped rope, but here goes nothing.
If you are jumping by yourself, hold the two handles and have the rope in back of you.
If you aren't able to listen to some music, have a song ready inside your head or that you can sing out loud. (It helps with keeping the beat/rope).
When you feel ready, start by bringing the top from the back to the front and ready both of your feet to jump into the air to allow the rope to slip under you and over your head to the front again.
Continue and you are jumping rope!
Once you accomplish this, there are ways to jump rope that you can keep your feet apart, sort of back and front, so that you are jumping the rope one foot at a time.
It's a little more work, but actually easier as only one foot leaves the ground at a time. I always preferred this method of jumping rope. Try it, you may like this way better.
When doing it this way, you can walk the rope, so to speak. It's sort of like walking to a different destination while jumping the rope.
So, you're exercising (walking) in addition to the jumping of the rope.
Enjoy!
