Jumping rope for 40 years

by Randy
(Minford, Ohio)

I started boxing in 1969 when I 12 years old. I am now 51 and still jump rope regularly.
Through the years I was a Paratrooper in the Army and started training in the martial arts 30 yrs. ago and now teach. I ran throughout my lifetime, but years of jumping, kicking and running has taken it's toll on my knees. Jumping rope is excellent if your knees bother you and can't run any longer but still want a good cardio workout. To increase the intensity as your fitness level increases, time yourself and increase the number of skips per minute. Right now I average 170-180 skips a minute for 15 minutes. Excellent workout without the pounding.
